Good morning! Time to “STOP” – I wish I could keep going, but it wouldn’t be fair to expect an agent to keep coming back to visit incase there are new pitches, nor do they have the time to keep checking for e-mail updates from me. So we’ll have to stick with what we have for numbers.
Okay – so! My new respect for agents has grown by leaps and bounds.
In this ever changing world of publishing, with competition at one of its stiffest points, with new trends, and conferences, and promo opps, etc… Why in the world would we, as aspiring authors, choose to ignore some of the most basic rules out there to make it more difficult for ourselves?
Imagine if you will:
You’ve gotten up extra early, put on your best clothes and driven to a job interview, which you know you are qualified for. You shake hands, give your spin on why you are the best for the job, list your qualifications, and sit back to wait…
Then your prospective employer says: “Did you bring your resume as requested?”
You respond, “Naw, didn’t bother. Figured what I just told you was enough.”
Get where I’m going here???
Finding an agent is similar to the job hunting process. If you find one you are interested in – FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES – to the letter.
If you want to do something to impress, follow the guidelines, write an outstanding query, write a damn good story! Not adhering to what the agents ask for is a sure way to wind up in the trash.
Casualties these session:
11 – Missing info
12 – Pitch too long (one by 346 words)
1 – No contact info (and the e-mail bounced back)
Kudo’s to those of you who took the time to really follow the guidelines here!
Now, onto business.
Welcome to Kimberley Cameron from the Reece Halsey Literary Agency.
Ms. Cameron, please contact me with the number(s) that correspond with the pitch(s) you would like to see, and what/how you would like the author to contact/submit to you.
We appreciate your time!

Oooh, those sound good! Congrats to everyone who entered and whew *wiping brow* I’m glad I got in. LOL I had to go back and forth between my e-mail and your rules so I could make sure I had everything. Snort! I am NOT good with details.
Looking forward to whether anything catches Ms.Cameron’s attention.
Jessica,
Too funny. I swear I’m not so strict usually. Good thing my kids can’t get on here. LOL.
The pitches are good, aren’t they.
I hope Ms. Cameron requests a bunch, but we all know it’s a crap shoot.
Good Luck!
I’m thrilled that have followed the directions properly! Thanks for this opporutnity, Candi!
New to Agent Shop–I just found it yesterday and quickly sent my pitch at 3:30. double checked the rules and followed them strictly
Just wondering…how do I know if my pitch is one of the first 30. As of 3:30 STOP wasn’t posted. Just nervous that it’s lost in cyberspace.
Any feedback is appreciated!
P.S. Thanks for this great opportunity!
Hi Christine,
I’m glad you made it too!
Kinda blushing over my rant about following the rules to the letter, but hey, agents must go through this all the time. No wonder they have such strict rules.
Thanks for entering and Good Luck.
Hi Jen,
I’ve responded to your e-mail as well, but I’ll answer here for those who are wondering…
Since ‘Agent Shop’ doesn’t pay agents to attend, we ask that they read and request as they like. The issue I had was the agents had a hard time commiting to a specific day.
This is why we give a week for them to stop in. I have no idea what day a certain agent will attend so whether I post stop or not, the pitch acceptance closes when I post for the agents.
I hope you’ll read my e-mail I sent and chose to join us for the next session. I apologize for not clearing this issue in the rules, (which I will add in now) but honestly, I never expected to have such a low turn out of pitches!
Best~
Candi
Candi,
I didn’t think you ranted! I think you’re right! I’m just glad that I followed the rules properly. I didn’t see that the pitch contest was even going on till late Sunday night! Believe me, I was nervous that I’d forget something.
As for the low turnout. I wonder if it was because of the holiday. Must have been otherwise it would have filled up faster.
Thank you again for doing this. And thanks to Ms. Cameron for offering her time. I’ve been checking my inbox religiously!
