Hump Day Kick Start – Tub Reading Edition

Hump Day Kick Start – for your muse, a writing picture prompt, or just a visual treat.

tub read

Reading can be so sexy.

What is going on in today’s prompt? Who are they? What is he reading?  A sexy novel? His literary masterpiece? A plumbing manual? Why is he reading to her? Had she suffered a traumatic event and he’s soothing her with his voice and a fantastical adventure? Is he teaching the mysterious young woman who had suddenly appeared on his doorstep his language? Maybe she’s a selkie, which is why she must stay in the tub, and together they are trying to research a way to make her human. It’s damn hard to be in love with a mythical creature.

Love to hear your take. Tell me a tale or caption the pic.

    This one’s easy:
Elroy: So, are you ready for me to wash your, um, back?
Rachel: You agreed to read me a story while I soak away the stress.
Elroy: I know something else that might help with stress.
    Rachel: You promised a story.
Elroy sighs heavily. “Okay, I’ll read. But none of that Sylvia Plath stuff. She brings me down.”
Rachel: No Plath. I was thinking it would be lovely to hear you read a chapter of The Notebook.
Elroy: Ugh. That guy? All of his characters die at the end. Brings me down.
Rachel: Hey, I got into this tub to relax and mellow out. You said you’d read to me. Are you gonna read or not?
Elroy: Yeah, I’ll read. Hang on while I find something less depressing.
[He hurries from the bathroom, makes a racket searching through the apartment, and returns, nearly out of breath.]
    Elroy: Found one.
Rachel closes her eyes and leans back in the tub. “Good, now please begin the recital.”
Elroy: Rub-a-dub-dub, Rachel and Elroy in the tub…

sigh…this pushes EVERY button. A luxurious bath, a hot guy, a hot guy reading, a hot guy reading to a woman (meaning me).

Please shut up, please. Does he really think I’m captivated by his ridiculous writing attempts? All I wanted was to come home, take a warm bath, have a glass of wine and then some hot sex not a dissertation on the westernization of eastern culture…*sigh* Why are all the good looking ones so clueless?

    Drifting.
    That’s what she was doing.
Drifting on his words, allowing his inflection and tone to wash over her with healing warm for the painful and aching muscles. So strange. Unexpected really that he was the one caring for her.
The nurses told her he had been constantly at her bedside while she was in a coma. Reading to her everything he could find, from her journals to romance novels. Then he’d pick her favorite songs from her mp3 player and would sing to her, albeit a bit off key. And the jokes, he would tell her the most nauseating jokes, then laugh at himself. The nurses would chuckle as they told her of his laughter dancing down the halls, infecting everyone on the floor. Not that she understood anything while unconscious , but deep in her core, down in the recesses of her mind, she must have heard him, felt him. Perhaps that was why she felt such love as he read to her now. Can you fall in love with someone while in a coma? Is love rooted in the feelings imparted by the gentle flow of words giving life to stories of everlasting love or adventures on the high seas? It really didn’t matter if no one believed she could fall in love with a voice, it only mattered that she believed. Her heart believed. And he believed.
This man, this kind and passionate soul, this once upon stranger was her lifeline. His constant belief, his overwhelming love had pulled her from the abyss of nothingness. He had restored her soul, her consciousness and her willed her to live.
Now, he sat beside her, still reading to her, his words wrapping her in love and worlds far away. She felt their souls merge. They were bound in this life and the next. Moreover, with his love and strength she would emerge whole again
