Hump Day Kick Start – Writing Prompt #12

Writing prompts to kick start your muse.

If that isn’t a story, I don’t know what is. Who is the customer? What does the artist think of him? Is he friendly? Quiet? What does he look like? Burly and threatening? Wiry and creepy? Super cute and wearing a biker jacket/football jersey/tailored suit? Is she curious? Maybe scared? And just what do the tally marks represent?

Share your ideas and/or post your creations, even if it’s just a line or two. I’d love to hear them.

“So whaddya think, Ernie?” asked his ex-girlfriend and current co-worker Alice. “Are you gonna ink her again?”
“If she comes in, over 21, and pays with cash, I’ll ink her,” replied Ernie.
“But what’s with her wanting the same picture every single time?”
Ernie shrugged. “Lots of people have their idols.”
“Sure, I get idols,” said Alice, “but why not different views, uh, you know, we got a catalog back in the office where we could find maybe fifty pictures of that one.”
“Don’t know and don’t care. Her cash is as good as anybody else’s.”
“But aren’t you at lest curious?” Alice stood closer. “And what happens when you run outta skin?”
No reply from Ernie, but he noticed how close Alice’s face was and he remembered the warmth their bodies had made when they were still together.
“So…?” Alice left her question unstated.
“Isn’t this how we broke up? Continuing to argue about something that has no correct answer and it doesn’t matter to us either way?”
“Uh, maybe so,” answered Alice. “But that was my skin, and my tattoos. Besides, covering myself with Elvis the King is just a matter of devotion to a music icon. That crazy chick is gonna waste all her skin on Justin Bieber.”

Ugh! I’d have limits, and Justin Bieber is a hard limit. Haha! Nice, Jeff.
