Hump Day Kick Start – Writing Prompt #63

Writing prompts to kick-start your muse.

This could potentially be tragic. Why had he been reincarnated? What had changed? Is he relieved, or crushed? Had she been destroyed, smote by an entity powerful enough to extinguish the immortal? If so, why? And would he avenge her? Or had she fallen in love with someone else? And would he seek revenge?

Share your ideas and/or post your creations, even if it’s just a line or two. I’d love to hear them.

  1. Jeff Salter says:

“Have we met?” he asked of the attractive stranger who had approached and hugged him.
She released him, leaned away, and studied his face. “I’m Annie. Remember?”
There was a flicker of some deja vu type recognition, but he couldn’t hold it still long enough to focus. “No, I’m sorry. Is it possible you have me confused with someone else?”
“No confusion,” she replied. “you’re Leo Barker. I’m Annie Feist. We were engaged. Well, almost.”
“Leo who?” He scratched his head. “I don’t know any Leos. And my name is, um…” he struggled to remember it. “Herb, I think. Yes, I’m Herb Arthur.”
Annie’s eyes burned into his, as she studied him. “Leo. I told you I’d never forget you and I haven’t. I couldn’t. But you don’t remember me?”
“I’m sorry, Miss.” He shrugged. “Wish I could help. I hope you find the Leo you’re looking for.”
As Annie stared, tears running down her eyes, Herb shook his head and resumed on his way.
About half a block later, it hit him. “Annie!” he yelled. “Annie!” And he raced back in the direction he’d last seen her.
But Annie was no longer there.
“Annie, I’m sorry,” he said to the empty sidewalk where they’d briefly stood together. “I remember now.”
