Writing prompts to kick-start your muse.
Something for the holiday spirit. What do you supposed is inside the present? Who sent it? Could it be the deed to a farm or family business bestowed to her by a deceased relative? A promise ring sent by her soldier/astronaut/grinch beau? A weapon of some sort that will change her destiny? The keys to a magical sleigh?
Share your ideas and/or post your creations, even if it’s just a line or two. I’d love to hear them.
Jolene stared at the parcel — left on her front porch by person or persons unknown.
“Who the heck left this?” she asked herself. “And when did they stop by?”
Without touching it, she leaned way over… enough to read the hastily scribbled note securely attached.
“Well, Christmas Eve is just two days away,” she thought, “but what on earth is this all about?”
Unlike many gifts she’d given or received, this one was NOT inside a box which could conceal its shape. “No question what this is,” observed Jolene. With the paper and tape so tightly conforming to the shape of the item, there was no mistaking a large-size hatchet.
“Wonder why somebody sent me a hatchet?”
RE-reading the note, she mulled over the second phrase, ‘until you’re certain you’re ready.’
“Well, Jolene Van Helsing,” she said to herself, “I guess I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.”
