Blurb:

Reilly Shay has built a reputation as a highly successful cat burglar. Her current contract—to steal a one-of-a-kind diamond bracelet—puts her one step closer to freedom from her employer. But she suspects her days are numbered. She’s a target for cops and crooks, and no one has her back since her ex-partner, and ex-lover, Grant Aubrey turned on her.

Grant gladly takes the job to capture Reilly at her latest heist. He loved her and she betrayed him. Case closed. But as he waits in the shadows of a Greek villa and watches her crack the safe, old desires emerge. And, suddenly, taking her in isn’t nearly as enticing as just taking her.

Will one night of dangerous passion be the death of them both.

Excerpt:

Damn. Reilly never got tired of the rush of cracking a safe. She swallowed her excitement as the safe’s lock whirred open. Slowly, savoring the moment, she opened the metal door. The diamond and pink-orange sapphire encrusted bracelet shined brilliantly under the tiny display light inside. Even as she removed it from its perch in the safe, the gemstones captured the moonlight filtering in from the balcony windows. Gorgeous.

Reilly couldn’t help the triumphant smile. The piece would look lovely with the matching necklace and earrings she’d already secured.

She wrapped the bracelet in a black felt cloth and tucked it into her utility belt. She closed the safe door and returned the exquisite oil painting of an Italian garden back on the hook, hiding the wall vault. Now all Reilly needed was the ring and the Lotus Collection would be complete. And then she could finally take that vacation to Belize. She closed her eyes imagining the warm tropical breeze tickling her skin and the fruity savor of a mango daiquiri.

“What took you so long?”

Reilly’s heart lodged into her throat. She whirled around, her Glock drawn, aiming into the darkness. Even if he hadn’t spoken, she’d recognize Grant’s wide build lounging in the shift of shadows. His back to the bay of windows and the shimmering Mediterranean Sea behind him created an aura around his form. Though she couldn’t see his face, she heard the smile in his voice. God, she missed that smile.

“Traffic was bad.”

Grant chuckled. “Same ole Reilly Shay.”

She inched forward, keeping her gun trained on him. She was no fool. Reilly couldn’t see it, but she knew damn good and well he had a gun on his lap pointed at her.

“How’d you know I’d be here?”

“It was only a matter of time,” he said. “Word has it someone’s hacking and disarming sophisticated security systems and disappearing without a trace with the Lotus pieces. Only you have that type of skill. Only you would leave more valuable and easily accessible treasures behind.”

“Flattery will get you nowhere.” She tasted the bitterness in her tone.

“There was a time it got me everywhere,” he said.

And anywhere. But that was before Paris. Before he ruined it all. Grant Aubrey had shattered her trust in him when he gave her up to Interpol to save his own ass. She’d barely escaped the authorities when they moved in on the flat she shared with him. The ugly scar from the bullet she took in the shoulder offered her a daily reminder to trust no one—even the man she once so desperately loved. Wearing a bikini had never been the same since.

MuseTracks Guest – Malia Mallory – Romance and Spice

July 26, 2013

MuseTracks is happy to welcome returning guest, erotic author, Malia Mallory. Malia has brought us a sexy excerpt and a chance to enter in her giveaways which include books, gift cards and a Kindle Fire.

Help! I Like to Read Romances!

Occasionally, I’ll become involved in a conversation about romance reading. The same questions always seem to arise. Are romances unrealistic? What about the kinky ones? Can I read BDSM without wanting to participate? Are my reading preferences normal?

First, fiction is fiction is fiction. Does it often depict real life? Sure. But most people read for entertainment and sometimes complete realism is not what they are looking for. I don’t think people should be afraid of words. I don’t think people should feel any discomfort about reading romances, even kinky ones.

If a reader likes to read Stephen King, do we make assumptions about their mental state? Not generally. If you read a police procedural, are you looking for ways of getting around the law? Not necessarily.

Romances provide positive feelings, though there can be conflict and heartbreak along the way. They highlight love, finding someone who understands you and building a loving relationship. What could be happier than that?

“So, do you want to eat now … or later?” Monica’s smile turned seductive.

“Well, I think I might need you first.” His hand reached to touch the silkiness of her hair.

“I agree. Food can wait.” Monica pulled his head down and kissed him, greedy to taste his lips.

Without breaking the kiss, Ben guided her out of the hallway into the living room.

Monica slipped her finger under the edge of his collar. “You know, it doesn’t seem fair that you get to call all the shots.”

“Oh? I call all the shots?” Ben’s hands roamed to her rear and squeezed.

passion_tempt_600x900“Yes … you decide when and how …” Monica licked the edge of his lip.

“One, that isn’t quite true, and two, I haven’t heard you complaining.” He gave her a playful pinch on the ass.

“Oh no, I’m not complaining.” Her hand moved to the front of his pants, cupping him.

“Then what?” His hands slid down to the back of her thighs.

“I thought it might be fun to … try a little something else.” She rubbed him through the fabric of his pants.

“What did you have in mind?” Ben swept his hands up her back and tangled his fingers in her hair.

Monica tilted her head back. “Do you recall that night before I left for Hawaii?”

“I do believe it is burned into my memory.”

“Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn’t be interesting to reverse things.” Monica observed his face for a reaction.

“Reverse things?”

“Oh yes.” Her finger laid a trail down the front of his chest. “You,” she poked him gently, “would do as I say.”

“I see. Are you finding you have a dominant streak?” he teased.

“I’m not sure, but I have a desire to find out.” The thought of taking charge appealed to Monica, not all the time, but perhaps occasionally.

Ben smiled. “That sounds … enticing.”

“I hoped you’d think so.” Monica walked around him, patting his ass with her palm.

“How would you start?”

“I’d tell you to disrobe for my viewing pleasure.” Monica enjoyed looking at the hard planes of Ben’s body, so different from her own curves.

“Shall I?”

“Oh, yes.” Monica crossed the few steps to the seating area and settled herself into an upholstered chair.

Ben approached Monica and then turned his back toward her. He loosened his tie and pulled it free, tossing it over his shoulder in Monica’s direction before unbuttoning his shirt and letting the fabric fall to the floor. He turned slightly and caught her eye. Monica flushed under his wicked gaze.

MuseTracks Guest – Malia Mallory – Alpha Males and Double Teaming

June 1, 2012

Please join MuseTracks in welcoming erotica author Malia Mallory as she discusses Alpha Males (my favorite!).  Take it away, Malia!

Does Every Woman Want an Alpha Male?

Throughout romantic literature, the alpha male is the quintessential hero. Why is that? Some recent articles in the media claim that all women have a desire to be dominated. I can’t agree with such a blanket statement, but I would think that many women when asked would agree that they find an alpha male appealing.

But what does that really mean? Is the alpha male the top dog, the go-getter, the romantic hero that sweeps us off our feet? What is the alternative? A beta male? What is a beta male?

It seems to me that the person who it is the right fit is almost by definition an alpha male. It is the person who gets things done the way you like to see them done. It is the person who strengths and values are such that you admire them. It is the person who has inner strength but isn’t domineering.

Being an alpha male does not mean walking all over people. It means having a strong sense of self, knowing who you are and not being afraid to live in accordance with one’s values.

What qualities does your alpha male have?

Please enjoy an excerpt from my newest release, Mia’s Cop Craving 2 – Double Teamed.

After Rogan unlocked the door, both men stepped aside to allow Mia to enter first. A feeling of empowerment swept over her. This was something she’d wanted a long time, wanted more than she realized. Now it was happening. On her terms.

Rogan spoke first. “Mia, would you like to shower?”

“Yes.” She unbuttoned her shirt, slowly one button at a time, and let the garment drop to the floor. As she headed down the hallway, she dropped the rest of her clothing, leaving a trail for them to follow.

Both men got into the spirit of the moment and quickly followed Mia’s example. Rogan and Jeff entered the bathroom where Mia had already turned on the taps. Hot steam billowed out of the shower. Mia peered around the edge of the glass, the tips of her hair curling from the moisture. She flashed an inviting smile and disappeared back inside.

Rogan quickly stripped off his remaining clothes, leaving them in a heap on the bathroom floor. He stepped into the tiled shower and disappeared into the steamy mist, leaving Jeff to contemplate his options.

Jeff didn’t consider backing out for a moment, not now that he come this far. He wanted to see Mia. He wanted to touch her, stroke her. He tore off his clothes, anxious to get his hands on her body.

Writer Inspiration: Write Your Passion by Tara Lain

March 11, 2011

Write Your Passion

by Tara Lain

What Will You Give Up Eating and Sleeping For?

It’s my pleasure to be a guest at Musetracks. As you may know, I released my first novel in January from Loose Id. It’s called Genetic Attraction, and when I say “first”, I don’t mean “five in a drawer and this is the one that worked”. This is literally the first work of fiction I ever wrote. I’ve been a writer all my life. Like a lot of novelists, i wrote my first book at five and just never quit. So what in the heck took me so long to write a book?

Early in life, i got really good at writing non-fiction. And early in life, people started paying me for that skill and they’ve been doing it ever since. Now this is a problem if you want to write fiction, because writing a book takes a long time and nobody is paying you to do it while you learn how. For years, i considered writing that novel and always stopped myself with the thought of how much i could earn if i devoted the same amount of time to writing (and ghost writing) magazine articles, websites and brochures.

What finally got me out of this cycle? Passion!  My whole life people told me i should write a book. Because of my career, i know a bit about a ton of subjects (friends call me Tarapedia) plus i have serious interests in spiritual practice and alternative healthcare. Write about that people would say. But i just couldn’t feel it. It felt like work. And then i discovered EROM.

Crazy what we end up loving, but i started reading erotic romance and just adored it. It fed into my always well-developed fantasy life. And while reading an EROM book, the thought popped into my head, i could write one of these books. I just knew i could, and unlike all the other subjects i’d considered before, i actually started writing. I spent a big chunk of a summer writing two books and i LOVED it. I loved the characters, and creating the story, and listening to them talk to me. I loved learning all the many things i didn’t know about writing fiction. I was hooked. I’d finally found something i wanted to spend time writing.

My friends look at me like i’m a little nuts. When i have the world to choose from, why would i decide to write “dirty books”? Partly, i guess, because erotic romance is as far from what i write all day as any subject can be. Also, because it’s wonderfully frivolous and i love expressing that part of my nature. And most of all, because i have a passion for it, not because it’s the “hot product” or it will command a lot of money, but just because it’s fun to write. Reading and movies are generally my drugs of choice (if you don’t count Adam Lambert). When i find i’d rather write than read, you know it’s a passion.

People always say to write what you know, but as a writer of ménage and M/M romances, I (and my husband) can assure you that I don’t live what I write!  But I do understand fantasy, and that’s what I really write. Wonderful fairy tales (you should pardon the pun) that tap into our subconscious and speak to our deepest needs and desires, not for unbridled sex, but for love and understanding and acceptance of how we really are.

My next novel, The Scientist and the Supermodel, comes out May 31 from Loose Id and another will follow shortly thereafter in the summer. This passion stuff is becoming a second profession, but I think it will never be a job. It’s so much fun and joy, I don’t expect to run out of enthusiasm for it for  — probably a lifetime.

What about you? Are you writing what you “should” write? Let yourself go and dream of what would be pure fun. That is most likely to succeed.

What’s your passion?

Writer Inspiration: Who Says The Snail’s Too Slow? by Eve Knight

February 24, 2011

Who Says The Snail’s Too Slow? He Has Nothing On Me

by Eve Knight

I wish I had some wonderful inspirational story to share with you about my journey as a published author, but truth is, my journey has just begun. I’ve been creeping along one small step at a time down my own bumpy path. For the past several years, I’ve been learning the craft, reading, writing, networking, ending critique relationships and forging newer and stronger bonds, while striving to maintain the motivation to press forward when at times, I wanted to throw in the towel. I’ll tell you what works for me in the hope that it might help you.

I have a core network of support, both in the writing community and out. To me, that’s crucial. I don’t know what I’d do without the encouragement of my family. If however, those closest to you aren’t very supportive, surround yourself with people who are. There are several online communities that offer support to creative people and to writers especially. Join and volunteer for writing organizations like Romance Writers of America and your local chapters. If you can’t make it to a local meeting, there are numerous online chapters where you can find the kinship of fellow writers. There are even groups for writers not linked to RWA chapters. Charlotte Dillon started a community several years ago where you can give and receive critiques and interact with other writers. There are several loops found within this community, something for every writer at every stage of their career..

www.charlettedillon.com

Another online writing community is the Writing GIAM community. GIAM stands for goals, Inspiration, Amnity and Motivation. Founded by Amy Atwell in 2004, this community caiters to writers at all levels. I’ve been a member since 2009, and I don’t know what I’d do without the support from my fellow GIAMers.

www.writinggiam.com/about

also apart of my support network are my critique partners. Critiquing is very subjective. It can be difficult to find the perfect partner or group. If you feel that critiquing is right for you, once you find your perfect match, hold on tight. N ideal critique relationship should be one based on complete and total trust. Your critique buddies should be there to encourage you, but to also tell you if something isn’t working and to help guide you back on the right path. I see them as a partner of sorts. They can help you become a better writer and help you spot and fix plot holes and character inconsistencies you might’ve missed on your own.

I seriously began persuing publication in 2006, but the idea to write a novel came out of nowhere while I was attending college in 2002. I was taking a sociology course on serial killers, and naturally my story was romantic suspense. I spent the following summer pounding out a first draft. I look back now and see how horrible it was, but I remember the feeling of utter joy and elation I felt to be creating something from a simple idea. That idea set off a spark in me that at times has dimmed, but never died. Never let your passion die! Try writing something everyday for at least five minutes or until you’ve written at least one hundred words. Keep your creative spark alive!

It used to be difficult for me to read of other writers successes because I wasn’t where I wanted to be in my career. And I’m still not, but I’m making my way there. It isn’t that I wasn’t happy for them, I was frustrated. Why wasn’t I published with publisher A? Why didn’t agent X want to represent me? We all have a process, a journey we must go through. We must always learn and grow, not just as writers, but as human beings. We don’t know of the trials and tribulations other writers go through. Never worry about what others are doing. It’ll drive you nuts. Keep your eyes on the prize. Stay focused. Celebrate when someone receives a contract or is signed with the agent of their dreams. Don’t let jealousy or fear stop you cold. You’ll only be hurting yourself in the end.

At the same time, reward yourself when you reach a milestone. Whether you’ve just signed with the agent you’ve always wanted, gotten that contract you’ve been hoping for or completed your very first manuscript, celebrate all your successes. You’ve earned them!

When times get really tough, and when you feel like giving up, think back to why you wanted to be a writer in the first place. Have your feelings changed? Are you more focused on writing for the market rather than for your own enjoyment? Have you lost sight of that joy you once had? Try re-creating those original feelings. When you write something you love, your true voice will shine through. Editors and agents can tell if your heart’s in a book, and so can the reader. Stay true to yourself and your voice.

So, I’m a snail and proud of it. *g* I wouldn’t have my journey evolve any other way. I have a core network of support, fabulous critique partners, a creative spark I won’t let fade. I’m extatic when a writer has great news to share. I know that one day I’ll have much more of my own, and when that day comes, my friends will celebrate with me. I’m focused on my goals. I reward myself when I reach a milestone. When fear or jealousy rear their  ugly heads, I crush them. And when I feel like giving up, I take a good hard look at myself and my writing. Asking myself why I write puts me back on track. Even if I have to dig a little, that joy’s still there.
