Link Of The Week- Online Accountability!

I have partners who meet with me several times a week to write. We have been doing a great job of increasing productivity, but some of us need a bit more structure. I poked around the interenet and found several word count trackers- some easier than others and then I ran into this-

http://pacemaker.sewillia.com/?

“Pacemaker is a playful way of making peace with your writing goals. You set a word count goal, chip away at it day by day and finish on-time! You can approach your writing target in various ways to suit your style :

  • Steady – write the same amount of words every day.
  • Rising to the Challenge – start off small and increase your word count quota every day.
  • Biting the Bullet – bite off large chunks of your writing goal at the beginning of your schedule so that the pressure is off at the end of your schedule.
  • Random – each day is a surprise, you may need to complete 5 words or 500! Whether heavy or light, you’ll reach your word count goal at the end of your specified schedule.

I haven’t tried any of the word counting or percentage tabulation software, but I have gotten some “accountability” by the weekly sprints I’ve been participating in since May of 2013. That’s around 22 months of weekly sprints (some 95 weeks) with an average of about 1100 wds per hourly sprint.
So I’ve generated a total of 104,000 wds in those 95 hrs.
Even when I’m in a totally non-writing mode (I mean no measurable output, such as editing or revisions) I’ll stop for that hour of sprint writing and produce those 1100 wds or so.

  3. Wow! You are the master! I’m a slow writer and consider 1100-1500 a super day of writing.
I’m glad you’ve found a method that boosts your speed and keeps you coming back for more.

In the past we’ve had as many as 10 or more sprinters collected for these weekly evening sprints. But lately it’s more like 4-5 each time. Sometimes hard to find a night that suits everybody’s schedule.
