Hump Day Kick Start – Hike Edition

Hump Day Kick Start – for your muse, a writing picture prompt, or just a visual treat.

Going outdoorsy for today’s prompt. Tell me about these two. Are they lost? Just outran a bear? Is there a civil war and they are on the opposite sides? Are they on the run from a pandemic? Could they be what’s left of a colony in a strange land?  Is she comforting him because he ran out of granola bars?

What’s your take? Tell me a tale or caption the pic. I’d love to hear from you.

  1. Jeff Salter says:

“We’re gonna die,” wailed Larry, as he sat on the lumpy gravel road. “Right here in the middle of nowhere and we’re gonna die.”
Willa placed here head near his and touched his cheeks. There wasn’t much she could do to console him… and he’d been moaning for half an hour. In fact, she was growing weary of all his whining. Finally, she said, “Complaining won’t help our situation here. We need to get up and keep moving.”
“But we’re in the middle of nowhere!” he wailed.
“Yes, that was one of of the things you insisted on — in your grand idea. I told you that having a chopper drop us off in the middle of this mountainous wilderness was a terrible idea. For one thing, we have no way to get our bearings … to pick our way out of here.”
    “Doomed!” wailed Larry.
“You insisted I leave everything to you — this was your big macho event. I tried to convince you that running with the bulls in Portugal would be a better test of your manhood.”
    “We’re gonna die here.”
Willa grabbed his shoulders and shook him. “Listen to me. You’re either part of this problem or you can be part of the solution. Now let’s take inventory. How much water did you bring?”
    “Water?”
“Yes, water. You said you were taking care of all the supplies. All you told me to bring was a bag of trail mix.” She reached toward her fanny pack.
“I thought I was supposed to bring the trail mix,” he moaned.
“What? You mean you didn’t even bring any water?”
    Larry began sobbing.
